PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a catalyst and the catalyst manufactured thereby.

SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the mixed metal oxide catalyst suitable for partial oxidation of alkane, alkene and a mixture of them comprises the steps of: preparing aqueous aerosol of a catalyst precursor of one or more metal oxides; and irradiating the prepared aqueous aerosol of the catalyst precursor of one or more metal oxides with microwave energy. The performance/characteristic of the mixed metal oxide catalyst can be improved by optionally using one or more chemical treatments, one or more physical treatments and one or more combinations of chemical treatments with physical treatments to modify the mixed metal oxide catalyst.
