PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a universal motor for power tools provided with a stator core that can make use of the features of an electrical steel sheet and a magnetic powder substance simultaneously. SOLUTION: The stator core 22 of the universal motor for power tools is made up of a core main body 23, which is structured by stacking a plurality of electrical steel sheets of a thin plate shape, and coil end storing portions 24, which are made of the magnetic power substance having recessed grooves 26 for storing the coil ends 21a of stator coils 21 wound on the stator core 22. Furthermore, the depth T of a winding portion, which is the depth dimension of the recessed grooves 26 formed in the coil end storing portions 24 for storing the coil ends 21a, is configured to satisfy an inequality of 0.9×(L×(Y-2X)/Y)≤T≤1.0×(L×(Y-2X)/Y), where X is the width of a yoke is represented, L is the thickness of the coil end storing portions, and Y is the length of the magnetic pole portion.
