The device has a combination recognization unit (15) for determining a combination of quadrature amplitude-modulated signals from a set of possible combinations. A converter (8) e.g. coordinate rotation digital computer (CORDIC), converts the signals into coordinates in particular into polar coordinates, where the coordinates comprise a radial part and initializes a radius as the radial part of the signals. The combination recognization unit is formed to determine the combination of the signals from the radius. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining a combination of quadrature amplitude-modulated signals.
