A file system management method for an embedded Linux-based STB and an apparatus thereof are provided to enable a RAM to store and hold information stored and managed in a flash memory and a hard disk, thereby enabling a user to access the RAM and search the information at high speed according to the memory characteristics of the RAM. A DVR(Digital Video Recoder) STB(Set Top Box) includes a receiving unit(110), a data processing unit(120), a decoder(130), an output unit(140), a control unit(150), a user interface unit(160), an MTD(Memory Technology Device)(170) and a flash memory(171) of a third storage unit, a RAM(Random Access Memory)(180) of a second storage unit, and a hard disk(190) of a first storage unit. The control unit grasps a type of information received from a broadcasting server, stores file index information in the second storage unit while storing the file index information and a broadcasting stream file corresponding to the file index information in the first storage unit when the received information is a first type of information, and stores file index information and a broadcasting stream file corresponding to the file index information in the second storage unit and the third storage unit when the received information is a second type of information. The control unit includes a file system management unit(151). The file system management unit stores a first node table for matching the file index information stored in the first and second storage units in the first storage unit while storing the file index information corresponding to the first type of information in the first storage unit, and stores a second node table for matching the second type of information to the second and third storage units in the third storage unit. |
