The purpose of the present invention is to provide a dust cover for a ball joint, the dust cover being configured so that a large-diameter opening at one end of the dust cover can be easily pressed and fitted over a socket even if the radial width of the base of a metallic reinforcement ring which is embedded in the large-diameter opening at one end is small and even if the size of the ball joint is further reduced. A dust cover adapted for use in a ball joint and consisting of a rubber-like elastic material, the dust cover being configured in such a manner that: a spherical head section formed at one end of a ball stud is held within a socket; a shaft section at the other end of the ball stud is fastened and affixed to a knuckle; a large-diameter opening at one end of the dust cover is affixed to and held on the outer peripheral surface of the socket, the large-diameter opening having a metallic reinforcement ring embedded therein; a small-diameter opening at the other end of the dust cover is held by the shaft section; and the dust cover is provided with a substantially drum-shaped diaphragm section protruding outward and connecting the large-diameter section at one end and the small-diameter section at the other end, wherein the dust cover comprises a recess provided in the outer peripheral surface of the joint where the large-diameter opening at one end and the diaphragm section are joined. |
