PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method for forming an image with high image quality. SOLUTION: The image forming method utilizes the area gradation processing that utilizes matrices each comprising a plurality of dots each divided into a plurality of cells as regions and specifies the threshold value of the cells, assigns one or a plurality of dots to halftone dots configuring an image to be printed and expresses the density of each halftone dot by the number of colored cells in the dots configuring each halftone dot, and is characterized in to include a step of deciding the arrangement of colored cells the number of which corresponds to the density of the halftone dots in the dots configuring the halftone dots by utilizing a pre-produced pattern, the pattern specifying the arrangement of the colored cells so that optional dots of the dots configuring the halftone dots have a prescribed number or over of adjacent colored cells when the number of the colored cells is increased in the dots configuring the halftone dots.
