<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for preventing the leakage of the identification code of a user, and for omitting the input of the identification code of the user in a device using an authentication server. <P>SOLUTION: An MFP device stores a user table in which "user ID" and "display names" are associated with each other. For user authentication, the "display names" in the user table are displayed in a list (step S201). Then, one of the displayed "display names" is selected by a user, and the user table is allowed to refer to based on the selected "display name" so that the "user ID" can be specified (step S203). The specified "user ID" and the "password" inputted from the user are transmitted to an authentication server (step S204), and user authentication is performed based on them (step S102).
