PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive and a focusing control method capable of setting up the optimal focusing offset without reproducing or recording the data on an optical disk. SOLUTION: The controller makes tracking in the land and groove areas on an optical disk and detects two focusing error signals from the PID regions of the land and groove areas.
