PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear actuator capable of generating an effective thrust force over a wide movable range by improving a thrust force generation efficiency with a simple configuration similar to that of a conventional reciprocating movement type linear actuator. SOLUTION: The linear actuator is characterized in that it includes: a stator 101; a moving member 105 supported by the stator 101 reciprocably; coils 11a , 11b generating magnetic flux for reciprocating the moving member 105; a permanent magnet 110 provided in the stator 101 or the moving member 105; and a projected magnetic pole portion 102 provided in the other stator 101 or moving member 105 and disposed projecting toward the permanent magnet 110 and facing the permanent magnet 110, wherein magnetic reluctance of at least one of both ends of the projected magnetic pole portion 102 in a direction of the reciprocating movement is larger than that of the central section in the direction of reciprocating movement.
