A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprising: a positive electrode plate including a positive electrode mixture layer formed on a positive electrode core; a negative electrode plate including a negative electrode mixture layer formed on a negative electrode core; a flat wound electrode body in which the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate are wound into a flat roll shape in a state insulated from each other with a separator interposed between the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate; a nonaqueous electrolyte; and an outer casing, wherein a positive electrode core exposed portion is formed in a form of wound multilayers in one end portion of the flat wound electrode body, a negative electrode core exposed portion is formed in a form of wound multilayers in the other end portion of the flat wound electrode body, the wound multilayers of the positive electrode core exposed portion are bundled and connected to a positive electrode current collector, the wound multilayers of the negative electrode core exposed portion are bundled and connected to a negative electrode current collector. the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes a pressure-sensitive current interrupt mechanism electrically connected to at least one of the positive electrode current collector and the negative electrode current collector, the positive electrode mixture layer contains lithium carbonate, and an insulating tape is bonded onto the positive electrode mixture layer in at least one of a winding start-side edge portion and a winding end-side edge portion of the positive electrode plate at a position opposing to the separator, the insulating tape extending in a widthwise direction of the positive electrode mixture layer.
