PURPOSE:To confirm the connection of a logical channel in the asynchronous transfer mode by sending and receiving a connection confirmation cell having a logical channel value using or used for the communication in a loop. CONSTITUTION:A connection confirmation cell received by a caller 1st subscriber's equipment 14 is subjected to discrimination of class of the cell by a branch circuit 45 and given to a maintenance test operation information cell composing decomposing section 44. The maintenance test operation information cell composing decomposing section 44 recognizes it as a connection confirmation cell and sends a connection confirmation cell reception notice together with a transmission time and a return time described therein to a control circuit 46. Then the control circuit 46 confirms from the connection confirmation cell reception notice it that an asynchronous transfer mode logical channel is connected and references the transmission and return time to calculate the required time in each direction of caller and called parties. Thus, the transmission and reception of the connection confirmation cell is attained. Thus, the connection of the logical channel is confirmed.
