EXPANDABLE PLUG FOR CLOSING TAP HOLE OF METALLURGICAL CONTAINER

PURPOSE:To obtain a plug capable of completely preventing outflow of the front end of slag by packing expandable raw materials, thermally softening raw materials and alkali silicate of respectively specific ratios into a metallic frame having a slit in the axial direction of a cylindrical peripheral surface. CONSTITUTION:The expandable member is housed in the cylindrical metallic frames 1 having slits at several points. Two pieces of such metallic frames 1 are disposed to face each other and a metallic rod 3 is inserted into the centers of bottom plates. The bottom plates of the respective metallic frames 1 are fixed to the metallic rod 3 by means of nuts 4. The expandable raw materials, such as vermiculite, which expand rapidly by heating are added at 30 to 80wt.% to the expandable member. The thermally softening raw materials, such as glass layers and frit, which are a binder for the expandable raw materials are added thereto at 20 to 70wt.%. The alkali silicate which plays the role of a packing assistant and binder at the time of producing the expandable plug is added thereto at 10 to 50%.
