<p>A system and method for detecting organic contaminants in water supplies. A housing (12) contains a hollow tube (180) made of a material that absorbs organic contaminants. The housing (12) is immersed in the water to be sampled and water passes through openings (26) in the housing (12) and contacts the tube (180) which absorbs the organic contaminants. Gas is flowed through the tube (180) to release the absorbed materials, either in situ or after the housing (12) has been removed from the water, and the gas analyzed to detect volatile organic compounds.</p> |
