A hygiene monitoring method comprises determining the presence of lactose in a sample. In particular, the method comprises a hygiene monitoring method which comprises swabbing a surface and thereby collecting a sample taken up in the swab from the surface, and determining the presence of lactose as a measure of the presence of dairy components. |
