PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve riding comfort by making a hydraulic shock absorber generate a large spring load in a base stroke after a beginning of a motion and generate a small spring load in a small stroke at the beginning of the motion for enabling to absorb a small shock. SOLUTION: In a hydraulic shock absorber 10 for a vehicle provided with a suspension spring 13 between a body side member 11 and an axle side member 12 to energize the same in a direction extending a distance between the same, a cylindrical elastic body 50 extendable in an axial direction is provided between the body side member 11 and the axle side member 12 in parallel with the suspension spring 13 under a condition that a load to start deformation thereof is set to a same load to start deformation of the suspension spring. Oil chambers 14, 56 are divided and formed inside and outside of the cylindrical elastic body 50. The oil chamber of inside of the elastic body 20 and the oil chamber 14 in outside of the elastic body 50 are communicated through an orifice 57.
