PURPOSE: A substrate containing a light-blocking film, a manufacturing method thereof and a flat panel display using the substrate are provided to improve color contrast and definition without using additional mask process by using an insulating substrate having an mounted light-blocking film thereon. CONSTITUTION: A substrate includes a lower insulating substrate(400), a thin film transistor and a light emitting element, an upper insulating substrate, and a light-blocking film(405). The thin film transistor and the light emitting element are formed on the lower insulating substrate. The upper insulating substrate seals the lower insulating substrate. At least one of the upper and lower insulating substrates includes the light-blocking film formed on a region except for a pixel region. The light-blocking film is preferably formed on the lower insulating substrate through which the light from the light emitting element passes.
