<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical amplifier which can automatically control the optical output of an optical amplifying unit in accordance with the connecting or disconnecting state of a connector and also can realize reduction in size and manufacturing cost. <P>SOLUTION: The optical amplifier is capable of outputting an optical signal amplified with the optical amplifying unit 100 through the connector 92 in the output side. This optical amplifier comprises an optical output control unit 200 for controlling optical output from the optical amplifying unit 100; a reflected light detecting unit 300 for detecting the connecting and disconnecting status of the connector 92 using the light reflected from the connector 92; and a gain controlling unit 400 for outputting an instruction to reduce an optical output of the optical amplifying unit 100 to the optical output controlling unit 200, and for outputting an instruction to increase the detection sensitivity of the reflected light to the reflected light detecting unit 300, when the reflected light detecting unit 300 has detected change to the disconnecting state from the connecting state of the connector 92. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
