PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem in a conventional occupant detection sensor wherein it is hard to say in some cases that the detection of seating is correct, dependently on a way for an occupant to be seated on a seat of a vehicle, on the thickness of clothes of the occupant, etc. SOLUTION: This occupant detection sensor 25 disposed in the seat 12 of the vehicle for detecting the seating of the occupant includes an occupant detection electrode 30, a capacitance reduction electrode 45, a drive part 50, and a detection part 55. The detection electrode 30 comprises a plurality of first electrodes 34a, etc. and a plurality of second electrodes 38a, etc. disposed on an upper surface of an insulative film member 32 embedded in the seat. The reduction electrode 45 is disposed on an under surface of the film member and at the same potential level as the second electrodes for reducing capacitance between the first and second electrodes by capacitance between the reduction electrode and the first electrodes. The drive part 50 places a voltage between the reduction electrode and the first electrodes. The detection part 55 detects an electric current through the reduction electrode and second electrodes.
