<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide means which controls occurrence of short circuit in an electrochemical device such as a lithium ion secondary battery provided with an electrode containing needle-like active particles like whiskers. <P>SOLUTION: The electrochemical device includes a laminated body provided with a positive electrode, a separator, and a negative electrode stacked in this order. At least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode includes a collector and an active material layer which is joined to a surface of the collector and includes needle-like active material particles.
