PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display device capable of preventing deterioration of an image due to image persistence of a liquid crystal panel even when a still image is displayed on the liquid crystal panel for a long time. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal projector 1 includes liquid crystal drivers 3 to 5 and liquid crystal panels 6 to 8 driven by the liquid crystal drivers 3 to 5. Further, the liquid crystal projector 1 includes an amplitude setting unit 9 which sets maximum values of video signals applied to the liquid crystal panels 6 to 8 through the liquid crystal drivers 3 to 5 according to a display mode decided from a display mode signal input from a computer 50.
