PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for stopping the reproduction of a pirate disk produced by performing a recording in a DVD-R disk (write once) or a DVD-RAM disk (rewritable) and then performing an illegal copying in a DVD-ROM at a player capable of reproducing each disk of the DVD-ROM/R/RAM owned by a general user when only one recording is permitted in broadcasting or the like, and correctly reporting the cause of a reproduction stop to the user when the reproduction is inhibited. SOLUTION: The reproduction is inhibited when copy permission information superimposed on a video signal indicates one-generation copy permission, and a disk is determined to be a DVD-ROM. Thus, one-generation copy permitted video or audio data is recorded in the DVD-R/RAM, and then the reproduction of a disk having data illegally copied in the DVD-ROM is inhibited.
