The present invention provides an image display apparatus capable of implementing excellent image display properties by improving an operation accuracy of an optical path control apparatus. A projector (1) comprises: a light source (111); liquid crystal panels (151R, 151G) for modifying light L emitted from the light source (111); a dichroic prism (154) for emitting image light LL by synthesizing modulation light modulated in the liquid crystal panels (151R, 151G); and a pixel shift device (2) for changing an optical path of the image light LL emitted from the dichroic prism (154). The pixel shift device (2) comprises: a glass substrate (21) to which the image light LL is incident; and an electronic actuator (25) for fluctuating the glass plate (21), wherein the electronic actuator (25) is disposed on an outer side of the dichroic prism (154) from a direction of an optical axis of the image light LL, and arranged on a different position from the liquid crystal panels (151R, 151G). |
