An antenna device (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700 and 800) is provided that is mountable on a bin lifting apparatus (12) of a refuse collecting vehicle. The device has a metal body (102, 302, 402) which fits onto a tine (24) of a comb of the bin lifting apparatus (12), with a pair of metal spaced-apart major parallel sidewalls (106) extending along a length of the base (104, 704, 804) and forming two sides and a height of the body (102, 302, 402) with a protected enclosure (108) formed within the body (102, 302, 402). The body (102, 302, 402) has two ends (103, 112) at least one of which is not enclosed by an end wall (110, 408, 608) so as to form at least one open end (112, 304, 506, 610, 706, 806), and an antenna (128, 202, 306, 406, 502, 616, 710, 810) provided in the protected enclosure (108) in a position that is substantially offset relative to the two ends so as to be closer to an open end of the body than to a centre point between the two ends. The configuration of the antenna device (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700 and 800) allows it to detect transponders on bins that may not be aligned with a mid-point of the device (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700 and 800). |
