PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water heater for automatically supplying a selectively set amount of hot water, having improved user-friendliness by allowing the reuse of the water heater only by closing a tapping faucet after completing filling the hot water for continuously taking the hot water out of the tapping faucet. SOLUTION: A flow control device 7 is driven for a preset time after completing filling the hot water to keep the flow rate in a hot water supply circuit 2 to a minimum which can be detected by a flow rate detecting device 6. When the tapping faucet 1 in a bath room is closed, if the stop of a water flow is detected by the flow rate detecting device 6, a forcibly burner extinguishing signal from a hot water filling control device 22 is canceled and the flow rate control device 7 is reset into a fully opened condition.
