PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonhalogen flame-retardant composition excellent in flexibility, mar resistance, abrasion resistance, and moldability and to provide an electric wire-coating material using the same. SOLUTION: The flame-retardant resin composition comprises 15 to below 45 pts.wt. (a) polyphenylene ether resin, 0 to 30 pts.wt. (b) styrene-based polymer, 10 to 60 pts.wt. (c) hydrogenated copolymer obtained by hydrogenating a random copolymer comprising conjugated diene monomer units and vinylaromatic monomer units, and 3 to 40 pts.wt. phosphorus-based flame retardant (d), provided that component (a)+component (b)+component (c)+component (d)=100 pts.wt.
