An apparatus for controlling driving of a synchronous electric motor and a driving method thereof are provided to increase magnetization force of a magnet installed in a rotor by amplifying an excitation current supplied to an excitation coil to target current intensity selectively. In an apparatus for controlling driving of a synchronous electric motor having a stator and a rotor, a power supply block(304) supplies an AC voltage to the synchronous electric motor in response to a power supply control signal. A first switching device(306) switches excitation current supply to an excitation coil(312) wound around an exciter pole installed in the stator selectively, by switching a current outputted from the power supply block, in response to a switching control signal. A current amplifier(310) amplifies the current intensity of the excitation current outputted through the first switching device to target current intensity and then supplies the amplified excitation current to the excitation coil. The excitation coil magnetizes a magnet formed in the rotor on the ground of the amplified excitation current. A second switching device(308) switches driving current supply to a main coil(314) wound around a number of teeth installed in the stator selectively, by switching a current outputted from the power supply block, in response to the switching control signal. The main coil generates driving torque for rotation driving of the rotor, on the ground of the driving current. A sensor(316) detects rotation frequency of the rotor. A control unit controls switching of the first and second switching devices selectively on the ground of an external operation signal and the detected rotation frequency. |
