The invention relates to a fuel additive comprising camphor (5-25%), menthol (0.1-10%), ethyl acetate (5-25%), naphtalene (10-35%), ethyl ether (5-25%), acetone (5-25%) and petroleum jelly, together with a solvent comprising aromatic hydrocarbons and aliphatic alcohols. Said additive is added to the fuel in a proportion of 0.01-5% and the physico-chemical properties thereof are modified, increasing the octane and producing a more complete combustion with a reduction in the emission of gaseous pollutants.
