Provided is a mold clamping apparatus that limits blow-out of the molding material from the mold parting surface, even if imbalance occurs in the mold opening force due to the resin pressure in the cavity, and that can extend the life of the mold. Disclosed is a mold clamping apparatus provided with a controller that estimates the mold opening force produced by mold internal pressure, determines a mold clamping hydraulic pressure value to apply to each tie bar to correspond to the estimated mold opening force, and distributes the supplied hydraulic pressure to each tie bar to give the respective mold clamping hydraulic pressure values that were determined, for molding in which the internal mold pressure is not symmetrical relative to the mold block center.
