PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereo camera unit and an automobile monitor system that can acquire a clear video image and can calculate a distance to a given portion in the video image, contributing to cost reduction.SOLUTION: A stereo camera unit 12 includes: a first camera 18 that includes a Bayer array single-plate color imaging element 18A; a second camera 20 that includes a single-plate color imaging element 20A having the same constitution as the first camera 18; a video signal generating unit 22 that generates a color video signal; and a distance calculation unit 24 that calculates a distance to a given distance calculation object portion in the video image on the basis of signals of pixels of the first camera 18 and the second camera 20. The distance calculation unit 24 is configured to calculate the distance to the given distance calculation object portion on the basis of only signals of G pixels among R, G, and B pixels of the color imaging elements 18A and 20A. |
