PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen the width of a printer body. SOLUTION: A thermal head and fixing lamps 27 and 28 are arranged so that their longer direction coincides with a main scan direction. An image is recorded on a color thermal recording paper by means of a thermal head during conveying of the paper in a subscan direction and then fixed by electromagnetic radiations form the fixing lamps 27 and 28. The fixing lamps 27 and 28 are used in such a way that both end parts, of the lamps 27 and 28, where the luminescent intensity is low, are crowded out to the outside of a color thermal recording paper 2. The main scan direction is set in parallel with the diagonal line of the printer body and thus the fixing lamps 27 and 28 are arranged near the diagonal line. Consequently, the width of the printer body is small.
