<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic device reducing image persistence, without giving sense of incongruity to the user. <P>SOLUTION: A driving method of the electrophoretic device includes: using continuous display time and ambient illuminance where the electrophoretic device is disposed as control indices, and driving the display (moving or changing an image), based on the two indices. That is, display driving (moving or changing an image) is carried out, while attaining a balance between securing required display quality and reduction in the image persistence, in a detected utilization environment.
