<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit to reduce a time necessary for rewriting of a program of an electronic appliance, and to rewrite a larger-capacity program than before. <P>SOLUTION: In this program rewriting method, the program of the electronic appliance 10 having a serial communication terminal 12a for serial communication, an external memory connection terminal 13a connected with an external memory 14, and a program storing memory 15 is rewritten. The program rewriting method has a first rewriting process for inputting a first rewriting program 19 to the electronic appliance 10 through the external memory connection terminal 13a, and storing it into the program storing memory 15.
