PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a high capacity magnetic recording medium which does not generate scratches and wrinkles on the medium, has high performance and high reliability and moreover, is low in cost. SOLUTION: A fourth tension controlling mechanism 124a controls torque or the like of a roll 118a so that tension detected by a fourth tension pickup roll 118 comes into a normal range. A fifth tension controlling mechanism 124b controls torque or the like of a roll 118b so that tension detected by a fifth tension pickup roll 118b comes into the normal range. Based on the data of take-up tension of the previous process being supplied through a third communication means 128, a third control section 116 conducts control to satisfy the relationship of 0.5<T2a/T1a≤1 where T1a is the take-up tension of the previous process and T2a is the unwinding tension of this process.
