PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass composition exhibiting high radiation shielding performance in a glass system consisting essentially of a B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>component and La<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>component. SOLUTION: The glass composition contains 5 to <20% B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 16-50% La<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0-5% M<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>(M is one or more kinds selected from a group of Al, Ga and In), 0-25% Gd<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and/or Dy<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and/or Lu<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and 0-10% BaO by mass expressed in terms of oxide and has≥0.05 mmPb/mm lead equivalent to X-ray of 150 kV.
