<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately distinguish a characteristic of a folded wrinkle, to accurately distinguish a damage level of a medium to reliably exclude a medium significantly damaged, by using a differential filter to filter an image of the medium. <P>SOLUTION: The medium discrimination device has: an image acquisition part 21 acquiring the image of the medium 11; a filter processing part 22 using the differential filter to filter the image; a filtered image storage part 23 storing the image filtered by the filter processing part 22; a characteristic extraction part extracting the damage level of the medium 11 from the filtered image; and a determination part 25 determining whether the medium 11 is normal or abnormal based on the damage level. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
