PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily produce a urethane sponge roll integrally having a sponge layer excellent in roll dimensional accuracy or surface cell opening ratio and having a uniform surface cell diameter in an industrially advantageous manner. SOLUTION: A sponge layer 42 comprising soft polyurethane foam is integrally formed on the periphery of a long rod-shaped core metal by molding operation and a skin layer 44 is formed on the surface of the sponge layer 42 to obtain a molding 40. Subsequently, the surface of the sponge layer 42 of the molding 40 is heated to melt and remove the skin layer 44 present on the surface of the sponge layer 42 and the cells 46 just under the skin layer 44 are opened to the outer peripheral surface of the molding to obtain a target urethane sponge roll 60.
