<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope system enabling still images and moving images to be recorded on a common portable recording medium without adopting a complicated circuit structure which incurs cost increase. <P>SOLUTION: The endoscope system loaded with an endoscope having an imaging means and with a processor connected to the scope is provided with a portable recording medium freely attachable to and detachable from the processor. The processor is provided with: an image processing means for applying a prescribed processing to imaging signals transmitted from the imaging means and outputting generated images to a monitor; a data processing means for compressing the images to which the prescribed processing is applied by the image processing means in response to an instruction from the outside as moving image compressed data or still image compressed data on the basis of a prescribed compression system; and a data recording means for recording the moving image compressed data or the still image compressed data compressed by a data compressing means on the recording medium.
