<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a TCP/IP network parameter setting method which enables automatic setting of a subnet mask and a gateway address of a device whose IP address is set, even when no DHCPs can be used. <P>SOLUTION: On the basis of an IP address set beforehand for a newly connecting device to be connected to a network newly, a temporary subnet mask where the bit length of the network ID is maximum, and an ARP request packet is transmitted into the network based on the temporary subnet mask. If a replied ARP reply packet is one from an already-connected device being at a transmission destination, a temporary subnet mask is set over again so as to reduce the bit length of the network ID, and an ARP request packet is transmitted. If a replied packet is one from a gateway, a temporary subnet mask set just before it, is determined as a subnet mask to be set for the newly connecting device. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
