Provided are a solid polymer electrolyte membrane which is excellent in heat resistance and shows a good proton conductivity even at a low temperature, its preparation method, and a solid polymer fuel cell containing the electrolyte membrane. The solid polymer electrolyte membrane comprises a highly branched polymer which has an acid functional group at side chain terminal and has an oligoethylene oxide structure at a main chain, as a main component. Preferably the highly branched polymer is a poly[bis(oligoethylene glycol)benzoate] represented by the formula 1, wherein R is an acid functional group selected from sulfonic acid, phosphoric acid, phosphonic acid, carboxylic acid, alkyl sulfonic acid, perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acid, and fluoroboric acid; and m is an integer of 1-6. |
