An air filter insert (4) comprises filter element(s), and a seal (7) extending along outer edges of one side of the filter element. The seal sealingly seats the filter insert against housing sections of surrounding filter housing. The filter insert is configured in such way that air can readily flow into or out of a structural space adjacent one side of the filter element with a minimum pressure drop.
