<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve detecting accuracy at the front edge of a sheet, in a sheet carrying device detecting the front edge of the sheet and an image forming device such as a copier, a printer and a facsimile having the sheet carrying device. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming device includes assist roller pairs 10 and skew correcting roller pairs 21 and 22 for carrying a succeeding sheet S in the width direction to a preceding sheet in an offset state, and a register sensor 131 for detecting the front edge St of an offset part Sa of the succeeding sheet S.
