PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal head which can make printing dots highly fine and can also improve the yield at the time of manufacture while the effect of a patterning precision is made as small as possible, by making only a heating distribution of heating elements small without forming each of heating elements itself small independently of each other. SOLUTION: In the thermal head, the heating element 2 is formed to extend in a main scanning direction at a common electrode 3 side. Moreover, a notch 6 which communicates with each gap 5 set between a pair of adjacent discrete electrodes 4 and defines the heating element 2 is formed at each discrete electrode 4 side of the heating element 2 by a length of 50-90% of a vertical scanning direction width orthogonal to the main scanning direction of the heating element 2. Thus a plurality of the heating elements 2 are formed independently of each other while aligned in the main scanning direction at each discrete electrode 4 side. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
