PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive an optical part movable mechanism under the control of a main control part by electrical operation in a trigonometric range finding and distance setting type photoelectric sensor provided with the optical part movable mechanism for adjusting the position and attitude of an optical system. SOLUTION: The distance setting type photoelectric sensor is provided with a light projection part 21 for projecting light toward an object; a light reception part including a light reception element 22 for receiving reflected light from the object; a main control part 33 for determining the position of a light reception spot in a light reception plane or the position of center of gravity of a distribution of the quantity of received light by processing signals from the light reception element 22; a light reception part adjustment mechanism 27 for adjusting the angle of the light reception part; an attitude control part 29 for driving the light reception part adjustment mechanism 27 under the control of the main control part 33; and an attitude information acquisition part 28 for acquiring information indicating the angle of the light reception part and providing it for the main control part. The main control part 33 automatically controls the light reception part adjustment mechanism 27 via the attitude control part 29 on the basis of the information provided from the attitude information acquisition part 28.
