<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variant nacrein capable of increasing calcium carbonate crystal forming ability of a nacreous layer and convenient for use, its gene and a method for specifying a region suitable as a piece for pearl culture from the pallium of pearl oyster. <P>SOLUTION: The variant nacrein is a polypeptide obtained by removing Gly-X-Asn repeat domain (X is an arbitrary amino acid) from nacrein of pearl oyster and having carbonic anhydrase activity. The specifying method specifies a region suitable as a piece for pearl culture from the pallium of pearl oyster by detecting a transcription product of DNA described in nacrein in the pallium of pearl oyster. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
