A method for driving a plasma display panel is provided to suppress a plate gap discharge between scan and address electrodes by applying a positive polarity voltage to sustain electrodes when a negative polarity voltage applied to scan electrodes. A plasma display panel includes discharge cells on cross sections between plural electrodes. A frame is divided into plural sub-fields so as to represent images. Each of the sub-fields includes reset, address, and sustain periods. A sustain pulse, which alternately has a positive polarity first voltage(Vs) and a negative polarity second voltage(-Vs), is applied to the scan electrodes(Y1-Yn) during the sustain period. A positive polarity third voltage(Vz) is applied to the sustain electrodes(Z) when a second voltage is applied to the scan electrodes.
