<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication system capable of bringing the levels of signals received by station-side devices closer to a fixed value, while reliably transmitting data to the station-side devices from subscriber-side devices. <P>SOLUTION: The optical communication system 800 includes the station-side device 810 and the plurality of subscriber-side devices 820. The subscriber-side devices transmit and receive signals to and from the station-side device via an optical fiber connected to the station-side device. The subscriber-side devices obtain a reception level indicating a strength of the signal received from the station-side device (821). The subscriber-side devices transmit the signal having the strength indicated by a reference transmission level preset to the station-side devices when the obtained reception level is within a preset reference range (822).
