A system comprising: a bioreactor including a reaction vessel having an internal volume, an agitator for circulating associated fluid containing cells and biomolecules within the internal volume, a feed inlet, and an outlet; and a filtering device, comprising: an inlet fluidly connected to the bioreactor outlet for continuously receiving the associated fluid containing cells and biomolecules from the bioreactor;a flow chamber through which the associated fluid can flow;a sleeve surrounding the flow chamber, the sleeve including an ultrasonic transducer and a reflector located opposite the ultrasonic transducer, the ultrasonic transducer being driven to produce a multi-dimensional standing wave in the flow chamber that separates the biomolecules from the associated fluid;a product outlet through which the biomolecules are recovered; anda recycle outlet downstream of the flow chamber connected to a recycle inlet of the reaction vessel, for sending the associated fluid containing cells back to the bioreactor.
