<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color distribution analyzing apparatus and method, capable of reducing the capacity required for a counter for counting appearance frequencies of colors. <P>SOLUTION: A scanner 1 is provided with a color type data generation means 121 for outputting color type data obtained by taking out five high-order bits from each of pieces of 8-bit image data read by a line image sensor 10; a basic counter counting means 122 for incrementing a basic counter with 2-bit width provided for every color type; an extended counter generation means 123 for generating an extended counter, with 8-bit width made to correspond to the basic counter, when the basic counter counting means 122 increments the basic counter, according to the color types of the image data and carry is generated; and an extended counter counting means 124 for incrementing the extended counter by the carrying, whereby the appearance frequencies of color types shown by read image data are counted with a few counters to analyze color distribution of the image data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
