<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device which can obtain a desired outgoing light quantity rate by providing a polarizer correcting deviation between polarization of light emitted from a laser light source and polarization reference of a liquid crystal optical element and an optical pickup device in which the optical device is incorporated. <P>SOLUTION: The optical device is provided with a laser light source 1 emitting a light beam, a polarization beam splitter 5 separating a light beam emitted from the laser light source 1 from a light beam being orthogonal to a polarization direction of the light beam, a liquid crystal optical element 4 arranged between the laser light source 1 and the polarization beam splitter 5 and emitting a light beam after a polarization state of the light beam made incident from the laser light source 1 is changed, and a polarization plate 3 arranged between the laser light source 1 and the liquid crystal optical element 4; the polarization plate 3 is arranged so that a transmission easy axis of the polarization plate 3 coincides with an incident polarization reference angle of the liquid crystal optical element 4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
