<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive unit of an ultrasonic motor higher in drive efficiency and greater in freedom. <P>SOLUTION: The drive unit of the ultrasonic motor is characterized by having: a box body; a first piezoelectric element which is constituted by laminating in a third direction an upper active region having at least two piezoelectric active regions by division into two in a first direction and a lower active region having at least two piezoelectric active regions by division into two in a second direction, and is arranged in the box body; a driven body having a spherical part; a cap which rotatably supports the driven body around a plurality of shafts; a piezoelectric element holder which positions the first piezoelectric element in the box body; a pressing member which brings a contact part contacting with the driven body of the piezoelectric element into pressure contact with the driven body; and a slide resistance reduction means which is arranged at a side opposing the first piezoelectric element with respect to the driven body, and supports the driven body.
